rentiss Baptist held its annual Ladies Brunch last week continuing the tradition of wearing hats that symbolizes the different jobs or aspects of life in which each lady is involved including the ministry of the Gospel.
Many churches in the county and beyond were represented at the meeting and those attending enjoyed delicacies provided by Betty Berry and her crew served by young ladies of the Prentiss Baptist Bible Drills.
Guest speaker Jan Cossitt is the Director of Volunteers at Merit Health Central, Jackson, MS (previously CMMRC) and Program Director of the Baptist Healthplex in Clinton, MS.
She has a long list of past accomplishments that includes association with the Woman’s Missionary Union (WMU) that brought her to Prentiss in the past.
Cossitt is a witty speaker relating her points with humor and her audience was treated to personal experiences as well as her serious side as she spoke of the many hats she has worn in her life. She expressed points she felt would be a recipe for a happy Christian life.
“Stand strong in the Lord and who we know Jesus is,” stated Cossit, “and agree with the Lord by putting aside disagreements with others and get along. Be full of joy and rejoice in the Lord.”
She reminded her audience that happiness is a mindset and must be practiced and emphasized that, as the Bible says, we should not worry about anything but pray in everything and recognize and accept the peace of God in our lives.
“Do what you have learned and know to do putting it into practice,” said Cossitt, “Pray for one another and be willing to give God’s love away.”
Other speakers were Rhonda Bayles who spoke of her experiences of God’s leadership as a teacher and Grace Grubbs reported on gathering food for distribution as Thanksgiving gifts to needy families in the area.
Pricilla Fields spoke of the knowledge and spiritual insights gained when involved in the Beth Moore studies at Prentiss Baptist and Linda Valentine brought emphasis on how others watch how we respond to situations and showing God’s love through actions and attitudes.
Bible drill young ladies included Anna Kerley, Bethany Langley, Ali-Anne Long, Anne Eliese Langley and Kaelyn Berry who quoted scriptures and Janie Winscott quoted the meeting scripture theme of Romans 12.
