Best season in school history for Lady Jags

The Jefferson Davis County Lady Jaguars had a record season making it all the way to the 3-A state championship.

The Lady Jags came up short and fell to the Booneville Blue Devils last Friday 59-33.

High scorers for the game were Jayda Porter with eight points, Kevionna Myers with seven points and Zya Walker with six points. Other players scoring were LaShayla Fortenberry and Layla Hathorn with four points each and Kimmoria Hathorn  and Marijah Johnson with two points each.

This was the Lady Jaguars first trip to the championship since the formation of Jefferson Davis County in 2017.

The loss ended the team’s 16-game winning streak.

Kevionna Myers, Jayda Porter and LaShayla Fortenberry each surpassed 1,000 career points during post season play.

The Lady Jaguars won the 6 3-A district championship for the third year in a row this year and are 30-0 in district play.

During the district tournament, Kimmoria Hathorn was awarded Defensive Player of the Year and Jayda Porter Most Valuable Player.

Coach Tony Woody named 6-3A Girls Coach of the Year.

All District girl honors went to LaShayla Fortenberry, Kevionna Myers, Zya Walker and Courtney Gardner.

Jayda Porter was also presented the 3A Scholar Athlete Award at the state championship game.

The Lady Jags finished the season with 25 wins and six losses. The team was ranked 19 in the Clarion Ledger Top 25 Teams of the Year.
