Then and Now

“Here’s to the love that lies in a woman’s eyes and lies, and lies and lies.” This was the quote next to Paul Farr’s senior picture in the Bulldog Growl.

Paul was Most Handsome, Homeroom President, Beta Club and FFA member, football, basketball and baseball player, class officer and a clown.

He was also one of my best friends in school.

Monday we laid Paul to rest. I have not talked to or seen him in may years.

Our paths took different routes in life after high school. However, Monday brought back so many fun days to mind, and I didn’t want to let them go.

Paul was one of a kind when we attended Prentiss High School, and he was my friend.

We told each other our secrets, and I encouraged him and served as his counselor in residence for his love life.

He and Eddie Speights were great friends, two peas in a pod.

I have funny pictures of those two clowning around, and great memories of those days we shared at PHS.

Paul was a good athlete, and even though he was not very tall, he was a hurricane on the football field.

Those were the days when football was king in Prentiss.

The lights shone bright on Friday nights and practically everyone in town went to the ballgame.

Prentiss Bulldogs were really good and won several state championships.

Football was talked in town, in stores and restaurants, and in the home. What great days those were, simple and safe.

As happens all to frequently, our past is slipping away.

Times change, people change and that is a good thing most of the time but, I will always remember those Friday Night Lights and my friends of long ago.

So to Paul I say, “see ya later my friend and we will sit and remember all those good times we had at PHS, and the date March 9, 1959, when it all came to a close and we started a new adventure in life.
