Prentiss now has a safe zone

The Town of Prentiss is now offering a safe ex- change zone, a safe place to exchange merchandise, such as buying items online from individuals on social media, like facebook marketplace.
“It can always be a little uncomfortable meeting a stranger to exchange money and merchandise, so we have created a safer way to do it with police presence and video surveillance,” said Prentiss Mayor Charley Dumas.
The safe exchange zone is also a great place for single parents to pick up their kids.
The zone keeps both parties in check, when or if child custody issues and tensions arise.
“We have seen the use of safe areas grow in number over the years and have actually been offering this service in the past upon request. We felt everyone should have access to this if needed. This applies not only to residents of the town, but anyone in Jefferson Davis or surrounding counties. We just ask that you only stay long enough to conduct your business or child swap and leave, so that others may also be able to use the spot as well.”
The safe exchange zone will be available for use from 8:00 a.m. 8:00 p.m. daily at the Ronald W. Jones Memorial Public Safety Complex located at 1340 Hwy. 184 in Prentiss. The dispatch number is 601-792-5198.
